Changing the processing model under a shared API quota

Several integrations shared the same marketing API quota. More per-record requests would continue to consume that shared allowance.

I led migration work from Marketo REST processing toward Bulk API and Smart List workflows. I implemented staged exports, S3-backed processing and Step Functions orchestration, with transformations for leads, contacts, accounts and campaign membership.

The central design concern was preserving record associations and business rules while changing how the data moved. I added visibility into bulk-processing errors and error-report outputs so failures could be examined at the record level.

What I delivered

Integration orchestration, field transformations, identity-handling changes and error-report outputs for bulk-processing workflows.

Checking identity before creating records

Retries and cross-system updates can create duplicate contacts or lose the association between records. I implemented identity-linking changes and duplicate-contact checks, including preserving record classification during updates.

I added bounded authentication retries and worked on retries for batches affected by record-lock errors. This separates recoverable failures from cases that need investigation.

The recovery constraint

A workflow spanning remote APIs can partially complete. Recovery needs to account for which record operations succeeded before attempting the failed work again.

Finding failures before the transformation even starts

I traced production pipeline failures to transient package-registry errors during dependency installation. The jobs were failing before their transformation code ran.

I added bounded retries and timeout settings to the affected jobs and retried failed processing work. Diagnosing the startup layer identified the appropriate recovery action without changing the transformation logic.

Investigating which updates deserve downstream work

I traced event behavior across connected business systems, proposed targeted change filtering and recreated UAT scenarios with application and release engineers.

A key case contained both a business-field change and a housekeeping change. Filtering solely on the housekeeping field could suppress a real business update. The validation needed to preserve that mixed event.

My role covered investigation, the filtering recommendation and collaborative validation; implementation and release involved other engineers.

I built a separate public event-filtering example to make these decisions inspectable using fictional records and reproducible tests.

Giving QA a record-level reconciliation handoff

I prepared reconciliation outputs across operational, CRM and analytics systems and assembled a package for QA review. This gave reviewers record-level evidence to examine across the connected systems.
